Menstruation: Is It Natural or a Medical Condition?

During my internship, I witnessed a distressing incident: a teenage girl, unaware of her period, was visibly soiled. The boys looked disgusted, and the girls appeared embarrassed, yet no one offered help or alerted her. This incident left me questioning our approach to menstrual education. Are we teaching children that menstruation is a shameful medical condition, or are we educating them that it's a natural, monthly occurrence for girls?

Menstruation is a normal and healthy part of a woman's life, yet it remains shrouded in stigma and misconceptions. This incident underscores the urgent need for better menstrual education and awareness among young people. By fostering an environment of understanding and support, we can help demystify menstruation and encourage empathy instead of embarrassment and isolation.

That's why I was thrilled when Triple A Social Impact Groupe organised a programme to educate both young girls and boys about menstruation. Understanding this natural process is crucial for young women, and it's equally important for boys to know how to respond appropriately and supportively. Proper menstrual education should be a standard part of school curricula to normalise the conversation around periods and reduce unnecessary shame.

Triple A Social Impact Groupe is working hard to raise awareness, but we all need to contribute to reducing the stigma attached to menstruation. Triple A is actively seeking partnerships with schools, community organisations, and volunteers to expand its outreach. By joining forces, we can provide comprehensive menstrual education and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.

Let's work towards a future where menstruation is recognised as a natural and essential part of life, not a source of shame or discomfort. Your support and involvement can make a significant difference in changing perceptions and fostering a more informed and empathetic society.
